ICAT Meets Automotive Safety and Regulatory Requirements with Altair Simulation Software

ICAT is one of the leading centres for testing, R&D, design, development and validation in support of a Government of India funded initiative to develop facilities for automotive testing & development. To meet the challenges of the automotive industry, they need to employ optimization to decrease vehicle weight while maintaining proper strength. For a major challenge for the rollover testing for bus industry, they used Altair Radioss for roll over simulation and Altair OptiStruct for optimization leading to shortened development time for their customers by over 50%.

Efficient Injection Molding Tools through Optimization, CFD Simulation and 3D Printing

The company PROTIQ (www.protiq.com) worked with Altair and created a highly efficient molding tool. Optimization with OptiStruct was used to find the optimal design to guarantee the maximum tolerances of the generated products. The cooling process of the product was simulated with CFD (AcuSolve). As an overall result, the cycle time could be significantly decreased and the part quality also improved due to lower thermal deformations.

An Interview with Ben Farmer of Robot Bike Co. Discussing the Development of their R160 Bike with Altair

Robot Bike Company (RBC) is a new startup established in the UK by aerospace engineers and mountain biking enthusiasts who identified the potential of combining additive manufacturing technologies with carbon fiber to, in their own words, “create the best bike frames possible”. To deliver a customizable, lightweight, high strength bike, RBC’s frame was intended to be created from carbon fiber, a material very common in the industry. The carbon fiber tubes, as well as the bike’s other components and systems were to be joined by additively manufactured titanium ‘nodes’, manufactured based on the specification of individual riders. Altair ProductDesign’s engineering team was tasked with optimizing these joints, which included the head tube, seat post and chain stay lugs, to ensure they were as lightweight as possible and still able to withstand the forces of downhill mountain bike riding, all while being fit for the AM process.

Mahle Discuss Its Use Of The Automated Reporting Director

A close collaboration was forged between MAHLE and Altair ProductDesign to create the automated reporting solution. While Altair ProductDesign developed the code, MAHLE described the current process and reporting requirements to ensure business alignment and an effective result. Previously, users had to create a HyperView session, adjust all the pictures, snap a picture of each desired view, bring the visual assets into PowerPoint, crop and place, go back and create call-outs, and re-examine results to create notes for the report; this is now a push button operation. Using ARD, MAHLE has successfully reduced time spent on non-engineering tasks, enabling CAE analysts to better utilize their time as engineers - yielding more analysis and better design.
